📚 Curriculum Hour Requirements

According to California’s regulation for vocational nursing programs:

• Minimum total hours: 1,530 hours (or 50 semester units) for the program. 
• Breakdown
  • Theory (including pharmacology) = 576 hours minimum. 
  • Clinical (lab/clinical/practicum) = 954 hours minimum.
• The theory must include at least 54 hours of pharmacology.  
• The program can be full-time or part-time.  
• There are scheduling rules: e.g., school week shall not exceed 40 hours; clinical shifts may go up to 12 hours. 

📋 Typical Prerequisites & Admissions Requirements

Common requirements for entry into a LVN program in California include:

• High school diploma or GED (or equivalent). 
• Proof of certain prerequisite courses: often anatomy & physiology, nutrition, psychology, medical terminology, etc. 
• Passing an entrance exam (e.g., TEAS) in many programs. 
• Physical health status, immunizations, drug screening, background checks (especially for clinical placements). 
• For transcripts: When applying for licensure, transcripts must show the theory hours and clinical hours completed.
